DIY Wooden Shoulder Plane

I built a wooden shoulder plane from scratch, starting with a piece of maple for the body and a cherry wedge to hold the blade. Getting the mouth opening and the wedge fit just right took some trial and error — it's much easier to remove material than put it back — but after a thin coat of linseed oil and varnish and some final adjustments, it was making clean shavings. Simple tools, but a fair bit of patience to get the fit right.
